At Desert Thistle FC, we believe that parents and guardians play a vital role in creating a supportive, respectful, and enjoyable environment for young players to grow and develop. This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations for all parents and guardians associated with our academy.

1. Commitment to the Team

  • I will ensure my child attends all training sessions, matches, and team events, and I will communicate with coaches in advance if my child cannot attend.

  • I will support my child’s commitment to the team by helping them arrive on time, with the proper kit, and be prepared to participate fully.

  • I will encourage my child to take responsibility for their development, preparation, and behaviour.

2. Behaviour and Communication

  • I will treat all players, coaches, referees, parents, and spectators with respect at all times.

  • I will speak positively and constructively, both in person and online, and avoid any form of criticism, gossip, or negative commentary.

  • I will not coach or shout instructions from the sidelines during training or matches. I will allow the coaching staff to do their job.

  • I will approach coaches and academy staff respectfully and at appropriate times if I have questions or concerns.

3. Sportsmanship and Respect

  • I will model good sportsmanship by applauding good play by both teams and refraining from unsportsmanlike behaviour.

  • I will never engage in, encourage, or condone yelling at referees, players, coaches, or other parents.

  • I will help my child understand the value of effort, respect, and teamwork over just winning.

4. Training and Match Conduct

  • I will respect the training environment by staying in designated viewing areas and avoiding unnecessary distractions.

  • On match days, I will encourage all players and contribute to a positive, supportive atmosphere.

  • I will not enter the field of play unless asked to do so by a coach or official.

5. Supportive Role

  • I understand that my role is to support my child, not to direct their athletic experience.

  • I will encourage my child to speak directly with their coach if they have questions or concerns, promoting independence and responsibility.

  • I will focus on my child’s effort, enjoyment, and development – not just results or performance.

6. Digital and Public Conduct

  • I will use social media responsibly and never post negative or disrespectful comments about players, coaches, referees, or the academy.

Consequences

Failure to follow this Code of Conduct may result in warnings, removal from training or match venues, or, in serious cases, suspension of your child’s participation in the academy.
